MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT 1600, 10 AUGUST 2010

1. PB opened proceedings with a prayer and welcomed all present, especially MP and JS. Louise Langner and Hester Carstens indicated that other commitments did not allow them to continue serving on the committee. He stated that for this election, the major effort would come from people over the age of 60.
2. Minutes of meeting 18 June 2010 accepted.
3. Matters arising:
• Progress reports needed from everybody by 30 August on registration of DA members in Paradise Beach, Aston Bay and Marina Martinique (to be completed by 30 November).
• Resources thereafter to be employed in Tokyo Sexwale, where a different approach will be required – the coloured vote being vitally important. Activists (even from beyond the Kouga region) to be employed to assist.
• PB and TK are members of the DA Coordinating Committee in Jeffreys Bay, chaired by Clr Nico Botha.
• Successful membership drive at Zonnenzee. Help required at Paradise Beach Caravan Park (2 September – flyers to be distributed) and Marina Martinique (16 September – residents to be contacted by email or telephone). PB to provide further information.
4. New matters:
4.1. MP, JS and IP co-opted to fill vacancies on the committee.
4.2 * Each ward to identify unique needs for inclusion in a consolidated manifesto.
* Membership recruitment goal is 400 – current “score” is 130.
* Vital voter registration process to follow membership recruitment drive. Voters can ascertain registration status by texting ID number to 32810.
4.3 Aspiring candidates for contesting wards will be interviewed in due course,
4.4 No further progress on mooted amalgamation of community associations in Paradise Beach and Aston Bay.
4.5 Registration of members/voters:
* Voters can only be registered in one ward (with reference to holiday makers).
* Foreign nationals holding permanent resident status can become DA members, but cannot register as voters.
* Door-to-door campaigning is time consuming, but very important as far as the elderly are concerned.
* List of all enrolled members to be made available. PB
* Voters roll for current Ward 1 presently being divided.
* Possibility of utilizing mass texting to be investigated. PB
* Master attendance register for use at information meetings to be designed under official DA “logo’.
* Frikkie van den Berg to arrange for information desk at Aston Bay shopping center.
4.6 Available funds to be utilized, i.a., for printing of brochures
4.7 General:
* PB called on everyone to approach the challenge in a positive manner.
* Similarly-minded individuals encountered in the process should be encouraged to become involved.
* Rates boycott suggested by St Francis Bay is not supported by the DA.
