Municipal election, 2011: DA announces its candidate for Ward 8

Posted by Picasa

David Ernest Aldendorff was born in Johannesburg on the 12 March 1938. He matriculated at Marist Brothers College and subsequently obtained a BA degree at Rhodes University.

His first wife was killed in a car accident in 1993. He then married the charming Mary Webster in 1996 in Los Angeles, USA. Mary has three children living in Los Angeles.

David has two children. Michael and his family live in Dubai, and Cheryl and her family live in Pretoria. Michael has twins, a daughter and son, while Cheryl has a son.

After working for 23 years as Manager, Purchasing Department of the SA Co-op Citrus Exchange, he retired at the end of 1996.

When they moved to Jeffreys Bay at the end of June 2001, David was appalled by local media reports of mismanagement, wasted and fruitless expenditure, and corruption by municipal officials. He promptly decided to become involved in local politics and joined the Democratic Alliance in 2005.

His worth was soon recognised and he became secretary of the Ward 3 management committee in 2006. In 2010 he was elected chairman of the new Ward 8 management committee.

It came as no surprise that he was persuaded by members of his committee to stand as aspirant candidate for Ward 8 after the unfortunate death of Gerrie Botes.

During the past 14 months, David and his committee have visited some 1500 houses in Ward 8 to explain the results of the demarcation of ward boundaries and to encourage residents to re-register, and in some cases to register, for the upcoming municipal election. Their efforts bore fruit as evidenced by a large turnout on registration day.

David says, “We are confident of a record poll for the DA on election day. We plan to maintain close contact with the residents in our ward and will do our best to solve any problems they may have.”

Change to ward number and voting station

The latest delimination process has resulted in the number of wards in the Kouga Municipality being increased from 10 to 15 for the 2011 municipal elections.

The new Ward 8 boundaries are Petunia/Myrtle Street in the south and the whole of Wavecrest on the upper side (in the direction of the Fountains Mall) of Dr. A D Keet Street. Residents who live in this area will have to re-register for the municipal elections next year.

The Ward 8 voting station will be at Dutch Reformed Church Complex, which is identified as voting district 10140062. This is the number of the bar coded sticker that should appear on page 2 of your identity document.

Independent Electoral Commission officials will be conducting house-to-house calls on the 3, 4 & 5 December 2010 to re-register voters. However, to ensure that you are re-registered, you are advised to go to the municipal building on the corner of Maple and Thunder Tree Street (near the old cemetery). Take your identity document along with you.

You may also visit the Independent Electoral Commission office at the Country Club in Humansdorp between 08h00 and 16h00 during the week. Take your identity document along with you.

Should you experience any problems, please contact the Ward 8 Democratic Alliance Chairman at 042 296 1721 or Nico Botha at 042 296 2215.

042 296 1721 in verbinding as u probleme ondervind. U kan ook vir Nico Botha skakel. Sy telefoonnommer is 042 296 2215.

Voter registration in new Ward 8 - 1 July 2010

Although the final boundary of the new Ward 8 will only be finalised in October, your Ward Committee has identified most of the voters living in Wavecrest who will need to re-register at their new voting station at the NG Church (voting district 101 400 62).

We have also established that there are still a large number of residents in Ward 8 who are not registered to vote. Over the next three months volunteers will be canvassing all these people to let them know when voter registration is take place in Jeffreys Bay.

This will require a tremendous amount of work and anyone wishing to assist should contact the Chairman, Dave Aldendorff, at 042 296 1721.

At present there are already 254 members of the Democratic Alliance in Ward 8 and for anyone wishing to join the fee is R10 per person per year.
