Minutes of the Ward 8 Democratic Alliance meeting - 27 July 2010

Welcome
The Chairman welcomed V Stanley as a new committee member and F Louw opened the meeting with a prayer.

Minutes of the previous meeting
The minutes of the meeting held on 29 June 2010 was taken as READ. Proposed T Landman and seconded F Louw.


Matters arising from the minutes
F Louw requested additional membership cards for those members who had paid their membership and had not received cards.

It was NOTED that a date for the next municipal elections had not been determined.


Preparations for the 2011 elections
The Chairman reported there was approximately 8 months left until the municipal elections and in terms of the Planning Document it was necessary to set specific targets for Ward 8



Target 1
Membership recruitment to continue. There are currently 308 DA members in Ward 8 and the present target of 400 members would be achieved by end August. The new target of 500 by end November was achievable.


Target 2
All blocks should try to organize at least one house meeting a month.

Target 3To pay visits to all houses in Blocks 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 would be completed by end August and that Blocks 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10 completed by end November.


Target 4
All houses identified for registration/ re-registration would be visited during the period January/February 2011 as soon as the IEC had confirmed the dates during which registration would take place and the target would be 1500 new voters for Ward 8.


Target 5
The target for election day would be a turnout of 85% of voters.


The Chairman STATED that there were 15 members whose subscriptions were still outstanding for 2009/ 2010 and he REQESTED the committee to finalize this matter by the end of August 2010.


A date for the AGM would be agreed on shortly and members would be advised by SMS from the DA office in Port Elizabeth two weeks in advance of the meeting.


J Schamrel kindly agreed the AGM could be held at his house at  24 Dr AD Keet Road, Wavecrest (082-800-1451).


Reportback on the JB Co-ordinating Committee
Councilor N Botha circulated a copy of the Planning Document for the information of the Committee. This document reflected the performance of the Ward and was updated on a monthly basis.


An amount of R20 000 (R4 000 per Ward) would be made available by 1 November 2010.


It was NOTED that the Chairman for Ward 2 had resigned.

In order to win the Kouga municipal election the Democratic Alliance required to win 7 of the Wards and obtain sufficient votes to ensure a further 8 proportional representatives.


Any member wishing to stand as councilor in the next election should make their intentions clear and submit a CV to the Co-Ordinating Committee. The selection process was ongoing and all aspirant candidates would be screened by the electoral college.


Councillor Botha requested members of the Committee attend the Public Meeting of the Oversight Committee scheduled of 28 July 2010 at the Cultural Centre in Humansdorp. It was important that members of the public participate in the general discussions.


Next meeting
It was NOTED that the next Ward 8 Zone 6 Committee meeting would be convened on Tuesday, 31 August 2010 at 14:00.
